Grey Nurse at Wagoe

Just got back from Wagoe. The sea was flat all week but no easterlies for ballooning so we had to settle for a lot of reef fish and plenty of lost rigs. I put out a live bait on a slide (hoping for a big Mulloway) from one of the gaps in the reef and ended up getting bitten off after about 15 minutes. I tried again with a whole tailor on a slide the next day from a different spot about 500m down the beach and managed to land this shark. Amazing it still had my hook from the previous day in it's mouth

Thanks mate, in this case

Thanks mate, in this case though I wasn't about to stick my hand in there to remove the hooks!
On that note, I had always heard a rumour that hooks rust out after a day or two but the original one looked pretty pristine after a day and a bit. Any idea how long hooks actually take to rust out?

Great catch mate, I wouldn't

Great catch mate, I wouldn't be sticking my hands in that mouth either

Hooks definitely take a while to rust out, I sand the protective coating off 20/0 eagle claws and they show a bit of rust the next day but not much

The the owner super mutu's dont show much rust after a days use even after being sanded and from a test I found by a charter captain they take the longest out of any hooks to rust

If you go to the sandy spots

If you go to the sandy spots in between the ledge about 3kms down the beach and send out live bait you are almost guaranteed a pull. Just catch some dart off the beach - every one we sent out got taken. You just need to get there early as the sandy spots are the most popular for ballooning.
