I have caught both on 80lb
I have caught both on 80lb outfits. Close call but GT is ahead coz its alot more adrenalin pumped hits and fight, especially inclose to structure. And yes different type of fish completely in different type of environments. But if you put a sambo in shallow reef area.......

Sambos
Have caught big Sambos in shallow country at the Abrolhos and would have to say they fight harder and dirtier than GTs.

Tough one
Pretty tough one to determine. I only just got my first gt this year up at Exxie and found him to be a bit of a knock over. Small sambo's still give a lot of stick all the way to the surface, but it is a depth vs shallow ground thing as well. From what I saw on the FWA show over the weekend when Ryan was fighting big GT busses they certainly looked like they could give more stick kilo for kilo. Would have loved to have got onto a big GT so I could speak more from personal experience.

I noticed on some of the jigging vids Adam that the big Sambos just seemed to 'float' up after the initial fight?? I thought that they should have been givin' you some stick even once they got closer to the boat.

Nope. They start to float
Nope. They start to float after the 1st or 2nd run. Pi$$ weak after the first couple of runs on heavy gear, unless they reach 100lb and above, or if you fish real light/easy. Pretty much unstoppable when they want to run though; when they wanna go, they wanna go, but after that, if you're still connected, game over.
Amberjacks on the other hand... are stubborn buggers.

I think that's where GT's
I think that's where GT's may have an upper hand on the Sambos. I haven't caught a GT but I've caught their cousin the Golden Trevally and they fought all the way to the boat which included several runs.
