Gun Clubs NOR

Just after some advice with regards to gun licenses and gun clubs. I'd appreciate any advice that any shooters may be able to provide.
I want to join up with a gun club preferably north of the river that would tick the below boxes:

I don't have a firearm license however over the next few months I'd like to apply for one (rifle and shotgun - Category A?)and buy my own guns. Ideally the club would provide a club support letter and firearm safety course. I understand you don't simply become a member, rather there is generally a probation period?

I want to shoot both rifles and shotguns - so the club would need to cater for both.

Obviously I want to join a good club with good people.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

cheers/Ben

Perth Rifle Metallic Silhouette Club is a good one Ben. Plenty of variety in disciplines and a friendly bunch of blokes. I'm a member but I don't get up there as often as I should.

Still alive

Sun, 2016-10-30 15:36

Yeah still alive no remarkable catches of late so nothing to post,

I got a little ally dinghy (11 footer) with one of the big remote contol leccy motor on it (but not with the gps lock on it) and I am getting a 9.9 hp outbourd for it at Xmas.

Plus I have been fairly active in a gun club ( when the weather is too bad for fishing I go shooting).

I come on here regularly but have given up posting to every topic open. I still follow the antics of everyone I fish with and still on OFW.

Cheers buddy and THANK YOU for the reply.

Ben there is a whole complex

Ben there is a whole complex out at waneroo that can catter for your needs. I 'm  a member of PRMSC as well and The BGRC. I was a member of Perth Field Rifle but the style of shooting did not suit me. RMS is great fun and if you can get involved with the Pracitcal hunting side of things.

 Have you shot before?

Cheers

Hey Ben, Thanks for that.

Hey Ben,

Thanks for that. I've actually just spoken with Brendan (Maverick) @ PRMS over the email this week and have lined up a shoot after the comp Saturday after next. I've just picked up a new rifle (.243) and scope. I’ve done very little shooting, so looking to start out slow.

thanks/Ben

Licencing

Fri, 2016-11-04 12:59

If you want to shoot away from the club, remember Club support will not suit you as you will not be able to use your firearms away from the club environment.

I believe the police have been making a concerted effort to steer applicants away from open licences.

 Thanks Rob, I'm not looking

Thanks Rob, the original post was written a while back. Since then I've applied for a lIcense with a property letter and therefor now have unrestricted. In any case, range is best place to get started properly, particularly with range safety, etiquette ect.

243 Hmmm

You may be a bit under gunned if the proposed wild life open range zoo gets of the ground.

I'd be thinking more along the lines of a 338 mag or perhaps a 375 H&H in a side by side, or if you want to be really adventurous a 7mm x 57 will do the trick, that is if you can place your shots well.
The old 7mm was good enough for a guy by the name of Karamoja Bell I believe his name was he made a living a long time back collecting ivory in Africa.

This Sunday

Fri, 2016-11-18 00:55

Hey Ben85 don't forget to come up on Sunday, I have organized a few pistols, Semi Auto and Revolvers ( I will make sure there is a couple of hundred rounds for the .44 mag)

Bring your rifle up and we can sight it in once the competition has ended & I can bring my 60X spotting scope to see the holes in the paper.

The 7 X 57 is just about obsolete now, with the modern cases and modern powders I run a 7/08 and can knock over 30kg steel Rams at 500m all I have to do is get the bullet to hit the target, sometimes you think that bloody target is moving when the heat haze springs up in summer.

I am more than happy to have other members from here as a guest up the club just let me know when so I can make sure I have plenty of ammo to shoot.

Check out the Perth Rifle Metallic Silhouette Club's website for what we shoot and when.

CHEERS everyone, Mav.
