GUTTED

Doctor confirmed yesterday after scans - severe muscle tear (forearm) and 75% tear through tendon; Surgery required asap.

Hmm, no wonder my arm hurts so much.

So unfortunatley, I'm a no goer for Exy(sorry Noha and scottnofish) or anything else exciting for awhile.

Where is that bloody Karma now?  Help a stranger out at Hamo bay in rough conditions by maning the trailer winch; rusty bloody cable snaps under high load and I end up with a stuffed right arm.

Sucks!

Cheers Pete

Thanks for the good wishes lads.

Home brew will help Colin - only have one arm to make the next batch though.

Yeah, sorry Neil.  I phoned Mark as soon as I got home from the specialist (thought he would of called you).

Will wander down for that ticket now wadetolley.

Was meant to be doing 4-5 weeks camping the coral coast with the family after exy too, oh well next year.  Probably better to be at work anyway to get the last bit of coin out of the project.

29th april til see surgeon...faaark it just gets better...have to swap drinking arms.

Cheers Pete

Shit Mate

Thu, 2009-04-09 12:18

I dont know you but that really stinks. I feel for you.

Trouble is because most of us keep our rigs in tip top shap, I guess we all think everone else does. Lets all learn from this and have the time to take an extra look when helping the unknown out of trouble.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Yes

Yes blank this is true, after going thru this im always very careful helping people..when you dont know how something has been looked after..

When i was an engineer on the trawlers, my skipper asked me to go onboard one of his fishing buddys boats ...as the refrige had broken down and the prawns were defrosting.

I was down in the engine room, and opened the switchboard. I then needed to pull off the outside metal cover to check the contactors. There was 4 wingnuts holding it on..i went to undo the top wingnut, and the skipper said"she will be right mate ill get them" He touched the wingnut and BANG..he was laying on the ground with a hole thru  his hand.  F(&#k me..after that i didnt help anyone!

A few cartons of home brew here for you two aswell!

Might aswell take some...now lets talk about my order of red emp!

Thanks for the offer too til.  Crays stocks (in my freezer) are down, so might get you on a few spots to help with the economic downturn in my freezer.

Close call wadetolley.....this incident now makes me rethink my safety in these instances of assisting others aswell.  It takes alot longer to heal these days too.

Cheers Pete

Recovery

Sun, 2009-05-31 20:11

Hi Pete

Hows the arm coming along. Its been a while.

Physio.

Reefmaster mounted to the side of and old bench or the old eggbeater with a 1/2 set drag would me my recomendations. Now dont forget to ice it often. 6 pack close by should take care of that.

Hope all is well

Cheers

Update

Mon, 2009-06-01 07:11

Had surgury 3 weeks ago now and healing OK.  Was a 95% tear of forearm tendon and a tear in the muslce.  A disolvable screw in the bone with fibres to the tendon and a few stitches in the muslce.  Splint for 6 weeks and no lifting for 3 months.

I had one of the surgeons who look after the Western Force (whether that is good or not...I'm not sure) do their best.

Just stretching of bicep and tricep for now to keep them moving.  A glass of ale is all I lift (so just enough).

I did get on the boat yesterday and run her with the muffs on for 20 minutes just to keep her therapy up.

Hanging to get out on the water though....but not going to risk it, till all is good..

Thanks for the best wishes too lads.

Cheers Pete
