Harbour Jetty High From the Water?

Hi Folks

Something that's driving me nuts!

I remember being on a jetty in a harbour/inlet in WA (south of 26) that is very high out of the water. I thought it was in Princess Royal Harbour - ALBANY - but stuffed if I can find it.

Sorry, don't have a photo - was ages since I've been there.

Anyone tell me where it is, or has it been dismantled?

G'day Dreamweavre,

I reckon you've hit the jackpot mate.
Albany used to have a jetty (deep water jetty it was called) in Princess
Royal Harbour. Very high off the water.

Hasn't been standing for about 10 - 15 years.
Used to fish off it when I was younger with loads of LARGE Skippy,
herring, slimy macks just to name a few.

I wish it was still standing as it was a great place as a kid learning to fish.

Phew - thanks Higgo - I was pretty sure about that - but the missus says I was mistaken. As you say, a great fishing platform in it's day. Wow, I remember it like yesterday.

Cheers mate!

Hi guys......
Was this jetty the one that was basically down from the main street where the old whalers used to dock? Just wondering as I used to fish one down there that sounds familiar when I was a little tacker (Many many moons ago ). It was high off the water to me back then and I have memories of catching yellowtail after yellowtail on a handline and often having (what I now know were) Salmon chasing them as we pulled them in... Used too sh!te meself LMAO.

Cheers,
David

Hi David, yeah, as Colin

Hi David,

yeah, as Colin said, it's that same one.
It got to the stage where they had closed down half of it due
to it falling apart and being dangerous.
It was great just for the fact you could fish deep water in the safety
of the jetty (not slippery rock platforms)

Mulloway used to go off plus the odd reports of Shark sighting - hammerheads
mainly but I'm sure the odd Great White would have ventured in there as well.

Just to another part of the history of Albany. The Whaling Station.
I have a family friend who used to work there when it was operating
and he reckons the size of the Great Whites that followed the whales
in was unbelievable. Sharks as big as 18 foot he reckons if not bigger
on a regular basis.

Nostalgia Mark II

The Whaling Station - another great nostalgic ride into history Higo. I remember as a youngster - doing a tour and watching them processing the whales and seeing great whites - what a site!

Thanks BTW for the infill on what happened to the jetty. :( What a shame it fell into disrepair.

To me Jetty's are such icons and should be conserved as much as possible - Busso, Carnarvon - the jetty that used to be off the north mole.

Haven't yet heard if they are saving the Carnarvon jetty - anyone got any news?

Would LOVE to fish the jetty at Cape Cuvier!!!

You're killing me Adam - I have such a picture in my head.

As to Garths, was that at a distance or did you do the walk and wet a line?

Cliffs

Nah, I was viewing from the cliffs. There were 4 lucky anglers down there having a ball. There would have been 8 schools the size of football fields that contained a mixture of spaniards, schoolies, tuna and sharks. Everything was getting cut up and white water going everywhere, just couldn't get any pics which demonstrated the action thou. :(

Sounds bloody marvelous Adam

Sounds bloody marvelous Adam only fished Garth's twice - a long time ago. Great spot and fantastic fishing platform. There were a few sharks about the last day - including a 10'+ Hammerhead.

My twin brother was very impressed with a GT head he caught LOL.
