Harvey Dam Trout Question
Morning !
After seeing all the photo's of the trout coming from Harvey Dam, i'm going to give this a go myself and either get up early tomorrow morning or head out there tonight and roll the swag out...
Just hoping to get some info... If i was to head out there tomorrow morning I would be aiming to leave at around 03.30am and get to the dam at about 05:00. Then no doubt I would spend half an hour or so looking for a likely place to cast a line.
Ive done a bit of research and i know that they generally surface early mornings and aftenoons / nights. I've looked on google earth and found what look to be some nice grassy banks around the dam which i'm told is what to look for - What time should I aim to start fishing in the morning ? I'm not sure if 05.30 would be a tad late or early ?
Once ive finished with the fishing i'm hoping to head the extra hour or so south for a sneaky surf :P
Thanks again guys!

We went down last Monday, and the sun was rising by 5:30 so it's definately not too early. Have hooked trout in the dark or at first light. I would'nt think it would take 30 mins to find a spot to be honest.
Good luck mate

Ahh cool, cheers!
I figure if I allow 30 mins to find a nice spot then it will at least make the search less stressful... even though it's Harvey Dam im still hopeful of finding a somewhat secluded spot (although I have only been there a handful of times so maybe it's not as busy as I think it will be).

Yeah last monday was a public
Yeah last monday was a public holiday and I saw no yakkers or boats and only a few other fishers. A few redneckers camping and doing bog laps in there 4wds though.
You should be able to find a secluded enough spot at the weed banks near the 3rd and 4th causeway, or if you drive past the dam and head back around you can fish the opposite side where there is less ppl normally.

First light
First light is at 5:20 , so i would be parked at the spot i want to fish by 5:00. Some times the trout can stop feeding very quickly after sunrise, giving you only an hour to have a go at them . Other days they can feed all day long.
I tend to get a few fish in the late morning 9:00 to 11:00 as well, they seem to cruze around small drop off's looking for a feed at this time of the day, but can be frustraiting to hook.
No need to look around for a spot ( you have already googled the area) Turn down after the first causeway , this is as good an area as any other. Usualy trout rise all over the place there untill late morning, it has grass leading into the water with flat areas, drop offs, a small like lagoon up one end and the causeway wall is always worth a go .
Cheers Grant .
