Has Anyone Been to Gladstone on the Inner Shark Bay Gulf WA Fishing?

 Hi lads,

Just thinking about heading north up to Gladtsone and wondering is anyone has had a crack fishing there ... whats the story? is the fishing any good?

If anyone could share some reports on what to expext and catch it would be much apreciated.

Cheers

Reports of weird ulcerated fish

In Gladstone Harbour - be buggered if I would eat anything from there - heavy metal contamination blamed - looks great but it is what is below the surface that causes concern

Channels

if you follow the channel till it joins up with bigger ones then anchor.
Good spots for estuary cod, black snapper and pinkies [inner gulf regulations apply] with the odd shark and cobia thrown in.

 Gladstone is great for

Wed, 2014-02-26 20:02

Gladstone is great for camping and fishing .Have to watch the tides as it deep enough close to shore but is bit of a sand bank further out.Lots of blacks and pinkies cod mulloway cobia there.Been to forrie island and is a small inlet there which may have mud crabs there as you can get them at Monkey Mai which is not that far away. Also good netting for mullet bream and whiting along the shore. If going in winter it does not take much rain to close the road.Used to be able to hire a small house at yarringa station which is right at the turn off to gladstone dont know if they still do or not.Closest place to get fuel is wooramel road house.Hope this helps a bit

Cheers Davo

Fished up there a few years

Sun, 2014-03-02 22:46

Fished up there a few years back, my brother and I got some cracking 15+kg mulloway out of a spot NW of the camp grounds. We were given the spot by the locals, it is a big area of sea grass.

"They come on the bite on dusk" we were told and sure enough we pulled both out of the spot within half an hour of sunset.

Fished the channels over a couple of days for some small blacks snapper but generally didn't do too well there.
