has anyone seen any crays

Hi People

Has anyone seen or heard of anyone catching crays down in the mandurah area I've had the pots out since the 15 and haven't even had anything sniff the bait a couple of diver friends are saying they haven't seen any cast off shells or any sign of them in on the shallow reefs south of the cut. Has the hot water flush of earlyier this year driven them into the deep waterand that is were they are going to molt. Has anyone north of the swan caught any in pots.

Seems like as usual, a very quiet start. A lot of people seem to rush to get their pots out right at the start, then pull them in as they are catching fuck all, and then the whites start running soon after. So i'd say persist for a while mate, and don't be too worried about catching nothing thus far.

We saw our fair share in the 15 - 20m range at Rotto mate but they were all berried / tar spotted, I remember hearing the same thing about the whites last year but they were there.

Always thought that the start of the season was slow for pots & got better, maybe ramp it up in a few weeks & not worry too much now.. or jump in with the tank & snare

Will remember to write down my passs word this time for the laptop hahahah

The pros arent getting any

Sat, 2011-11-19 15:00

The pros arent getting any whites yet, just reds. One boat picked up 200kg on Friday from Lanno. Apparently he was out the furthest also. Will be putting mine in this week sometime and hopefully catch some whites when they go. Andy, you're better off bringing them in now and wait for reports of whites being caught then put them back in.

we got 7 today diving off

Sat, 2011-11-19 16:10

we got 7 today diving off Mindarie.  depth was around 9-12m... mostly reds though a couple of whites.  looks like they just shedded...they were pretty soft...

will be heading out again tomoz.  Going to try a spot at 18m that usually holds a few.  If none are there then we'll move back into the shallower grounds...

viz is pretty bad at the mo - not to mention the swell!

The whites haven't gone yet

Sun, 2011-11-20 06:44

The whites haven't gone yet there still burried in the sand. waiting for there shells to harden. we need the easterly  wind and no swell.this will group them up in numbers .if we get the flat condition over the next week then things will start to pick up Over the years the seasons have changed and the crays have started later . 30 years ago we had easterly winds and clear viz for weeks before the seasons started and the crays were there from word go but with the changing seasons we now are getting cold frount and swell into the start of the season .Hang in there a week /ten days and they will be there.will dive during the week and let ya know .

Poor report back from diving mates!

Sun, 2011-11-20 18:25

Just finished talking to mates who dived off Hillarys today and only land three size crays(3 divers), they dived 22m and 12m, vis was ok but no good signs of whites ready to move like shedded shells. Then spoke to mates down rockingham way and the same, they dive 12m first for 3 crays then went deeper 18m and landed another 9 crays (4 divers). Again said no signs of whites in masses or shells. I hope to get in the water next weekend to see for myself but I think they put the size down so the amateurs can get there quotta of 5% aloud by goverment. Can't see that happening myself. What your thoughts on this you guys?
