having trouble getting a good finish on some boat bling- any epoxy gurus?

Have been redoing a bit of teak on my boat and having real trouble with pitting in the epoxy.
I am using high gloss 2 part (2-1) epoxy - I lay up the first coat quite thick and then sand it back and apply a thinner second coat. Most of it has turned out great but some just pit repeatedly, tried re brushing as it gets thicker/cures but they just keep coming back!
The only thing I can think of (has just come to mind) is it could be silicon/other off the sand paper...?

Bubbles

Hey mate!

That looks like you have bubbles in the epoxy. Ive done bar tops and jarrah slab tables and what you do is when you apply the epoxy you use a blow torch to go over it which explodes the bubbles and then that way you get an even finish with no bubbles

Cheers

hi mate
yep understand and have had that before - bit of CO2 pops the bubbles - but this is just pitting, no bubbles - so these indentations form as I brush the epoxy on - I re brush them flat and they just reform

Epoxy

That happens if you try and put regular fibreglassing epoxy on too thick. The surface tension changes as it cures. Also, if you have let it cure and then sand it back, the amine blush that forms during the curing process will prevent good adhesion of the second coat. Need to wash with warm soapy water to remove the blush before sanding.

Best bet it to use the liquid glass type epoxy like the Norglass or similar and get it with one coat.
