Just a stab in the dark but
Just a stab in the dark but is your gps losing total power, e.g battery getting isolated and it's losing its memory of the card being loaded and when you put it back in it just re loads it ?

all i can suggest is maybe
all i can suggest is maybe your contacts are either losing touch with the card or a bit of corrosion is setting in?
to fish or not to fish...as if there was an option.

It doesn't have an internal battery does it
I ask as my old Garmin had a built in internal rechargable lithium battery to power the memory back up when disconnected and it died, they simply replaced it and after charging it was back sweet again.. You could NOT access that battery without pulling the unit apart
Just a thought as it might explain the issue - am not familiar with your unit or it's internals
