Heading out from Mandurah

Hi all,

Reaching out for a bit of help here.  In a couple of weeks I'm taking the boat down to Mandurah for a family holiday with the folks.  I've never fished out form there before, but thought I would take the old man out for a bit of a session if the weather is ok.

Trouble is, I dont know the ground out there at all, and so looking for some help as to where to head.  Not asking for your best spots, but if anyone could point me to the general vacinity of some decent ground where i can sound around, I'd really appreciate it.  Feel free to PM me if you dont want to publicise any info :)

We're staying in the Mandurah canals so will be heading out from there.

Thanks in advance,

Lavs

Mandurah Fishing

Hey mate, unfortunately not a great deal of ground out from the Halls Head end unless you head out 30-40kms.  You best bet would be the James Service Reef ( about 5 miles out) or the inshore reefs that run parallel with the beaches from Silver Sands heading north.  Sound around James Service.  Have caught snapper, skippy, Dhuies, Sambos and KG Whiting there, and the inshore reefs will hold whiting, snapper, skippy etc. The Dawesville end has better ground out from there but I haven't had the chance to get out there yet.  All the best!

There is some nice ground straight out from the cut

Almost due west. I agree that there is better ground from the cut end than Halls Head.

Might look at sounder and give you a general plot.

Chart WA913

Hi Lavs

If you haven't already got this chart, grab a copy of WA913 as it covers the area from Cape Peron to Dawesville, which shows you the inshore reefs, James Service, etc, off Mandurah, as well as down to the Dawesville Cut.

On the back of this chart you'll get a close in look at the coastline from Mandurah to the Dawesville Cut. Chart WA755 shows you the coastline from the Cut, down to Preston Beach.

Hope this helps....look forward to your reports when you holiday in Mandurah. Good luck.

regards

I had planned to get some charts for the area as I only have metro charts.  So thanks for letting me know the right ones. :)
