help help computor geek advise sought

Hi Guys & girls

can anyone please help me? I'v just brought a second hand computor from an auction house and it came with a C.O.A. for "Vista". i was told that all i had to do was take it home and load my copy of windows xp profesional on and all would be danddy put the disk in the slot and away you go said the man Hmmm. not quite

my problem is this, put the orig xp disk in computor makes all the right sounds shows via on screen messages all the files it is loading up all seem ok then message comes up "starting windows". then the fun starts, blue screen comes up with the following message.

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computor.

If this is the first time your've seen this stop error screen restart your computor. If this screen appears again follow these steps.

Check for viruses on your computor, remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers.

Check your hard drive to make sureit is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk/f to check for hard drive corruptionand then restart your computor

has anyone had this sort of problem and if so do i need to go to a computor geek or what my knowledge of computors is i know how to turn them on put a disk in the drive and press run, any advise most appreciated

That can be 1000 and one

That can be 1000 and one thing. Seen it before many times for various reasons.

Faulty HDD, Faulty RAM, Faulty whatever.

Firs step would be cleaning out the computer, make sure all the cables are pushed in properly. If there are 2 RAM modules, try to remove one and see if the message still comes up. Do the same with the second one. Then I would format the disk and proceed with the new installation. If you are not confident to do that, you might want to get somebody to have a look at it for you. Most of the time it’s time consuming trial and error process to fix this kind of thing.

so you want to remove vista and go back to XP?

firstly mate go into your bios, when you boot up your machine constantly tap either F2,f8,f10<OR f12depends on which pc you have , and your bios will open, change the boot order , make the pc boot from disc as priority, save and exit,

you,ll have to format, it will give you an option , just click yes,

let me know how you go

As I understand it, the HDD

As I understand it, the HDD was clean and he wants to put XPs on it. (Wise move). Since he sees the XP start screen, the boot order is not the issue. You might also come across some licensing issues, doing that. Downgrade rights are only available for Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate. I assume that that should be ok, if it’s a computer from an auction, most likely from some company. Then you might need to ring Microsoft, explain the situation and ask them about a new activation number. Fingers cross, they will give it to you, since the original Vista system has been activated already.

its called BSOD ( Blue Screen

Tue, 2012-12-18 16:05

its called BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death) Which mean nine times out of ten you have a dead motherboard or something on the motherboard is interupting the 5 volt rail which sets off the Blue screen warning.

If you bought it from auction take it back and tell them that is has BSOD and you will get your money back. Just out of interest which auction company did you buy it from as if you bought it from Grays Online here in WA i am the State Manager here and i would be more than happy to help you out if you bought it from us or not. Just send me a PM and if you need any Help.

Cheers Dave

update on computer problem

Wed, 2012-12-19 21:21

Arrrh all is not what it seems, a good friend who is also pretty smart with computers looked at our problem and told us yep dead hard drive. So we took it into a computer repairs place in Eskine and told him our tail of whoa and left for him to get on with putting things right.

Short time later we get a phone call its not the hard drive but a new type of virius he has not seen before, now is this good news or bad I ask him, the reply is it's both.

The good news it is not goiung to need a new hard drive and is not going to cost an arm and a leg, the bad news is that if this type of virius is out there in computer land there are going to be a lot of people really pissed off. We ask Ross's if the could tell us were they got the computers from so we could tell them about the virius in these machines, answer not our problem.

We sell the machines as is where is.

Hmm, interesting. Honestly,

Hmm, interesting. Honestly, the chance you have a virus which has never been seen before is probably equal to get hit by lightning. Usually, somebody got it before and it would be described on the net. Also I assume, that the hard drive was wiped out before it went to auction, so nowhere to save the virus. Well, theoretically there would be, but highly highly unlikely. You bought a lemon I think. That’s all.
