Help on info for buying a boat.

Hey guys, buying my own first boat very soon and am going to see this one very shortly http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/port-kennedy/boats-jet-skis/6-2m-frasercraft-with-280-penta-leg/1002066860.

I was just wondering what you guys think of it, if you have had a boat with a Holden 202 inboard or similar boat to this and what you think?

I'm looking for something that will comfortably go over to rotto and behind it to fish the shelves with a budget of 13 grand at absolute max.

Appreciate any tips (I AM doing my own research, talking to a boatie might help though :) )

Cheers.
Damon

i used to fish the fads and depths to 200m in a 4.8 stacer ali with a 40hp on the back, you could pick something similar up for about 10k or less, great little rig it. all comes down to picking your weather really.

i wouldn't buy a boat with a 202 in it, had old holdens and they were pigs on the juice.

happy hunting

202 Holden

I wouldnt, especially if you arent mechanically minded enough to work on it yourself.

202's are a great motor, but theres a good chance its a bodged up conversion and just not worth the bother for someone who needs to pay someone else to work on it.

It'll cost you HEAPS and almost certainly wont have intrinsically safe spark free electrics.

electrics must be in tip top

Thu, 2012-05-10 13:22

electrics must be in tip top shape, alternator be a fully marinised item for it to be a safe boat.

Looks like the carby has a marinised anty blow back filter on it.

Be prepared to stuff around with it and in the end have to re-power including new leg.

This is expensive!

the 202 is only around 110HP

Thu, 2012-05-10 13:55

the 202 is only around 110HP also, thats not a lot of go for a heavy 6.2 meter glass boat?

As Glastro said, it'll need a repair down the track.

But personally Im not a fan of inboard petrol engines fullstop, let alone converted car engines due to the potential to be the lead feature on the evening news.

I know there are thousands upon thousands of 100% safe ones, Mercs and Volvos etc, but still not a fan.
