From memory
From going out on a couple of charters I think they are out around 120m - possibly around 30 - 40km out.
*edit* oh wait a minute I think I have mistaken for goldband. Start at 120 and go west lol!

From here you will find them
From here you will find them as close as about 25nm but some of the more popular spots are quite a bit further. Like you said if you head north it drops off much quicker. There is a lot of ground out there and so there should be a lot of fish to find. We find new stuff every time we venture out that far. Best way to find ground would be to pick a area or depth, chuck some lures out for a while and mark anything you see on your sounder for a coupple of hours. Then pull the lines in and have a drift on as many spots as you can. Doing this there is a good chance you will find ground that may of never been fished before and your best chance of getting a good 20kg+ model that everyone seems to be after. Also good chance of picking a billy or two in the process, mabey even a blue out that wide.
And if you see us down the tables or ramp don't hesitate to come have a chat. Allways happy to help out if people are willing to ask.
