Wet, wet and fingers crossed

Sun, 2010-12-19 09:24

Its a little bit wet outside of the levee banks. The water is just over the original levee bank top on Boundary road where the big banana is, they have put a metre of sand on top and that is the only thing saving the whole town from going under. We are closely watching the tide as it comes in at 1100, it might back the water up enough to send it over. No one can predict what the actual peak level will be because its still rising at Fishy Pool and Lyons crossing, where they have auto river level guages.

The caravan park where my bus still is is about 6-8 feet underwater, had to make a hard decision, do I unhook the bus from the hard wall annex that is worth nearly as much as the bus or leave it connected. If I unhhoked it would mean goodbye annex because it would float away and gone forever so decided to leave it connected with everything up as high as possible above what was the original predicted peak water level. The electrical stuff should be ok [we hope] and I can drain all the sumps, diffs on the bus and give them a flush so she will survive . All the fishing gear is still there, maybe I should have left a few hooks baited so there is something to show for it all.

Will keep you all in the loop on what is happening if I can, will be very busy if it goes over as we, sea rescue will be the main back up then so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and watch

Cheers John

When I said she'd just be a bit of rain, didn't expect that.  Bit unhappy we couldn't have taken more off you up at Exxy rather than you getting the whole lot.  Hope things will be ok when you get back to home mate.

Hope all works out for all up there. Sounds like you made the right choice to get out of the bus and leave it there.
Stay safe and good luck with the clean up.

hope the damage and water logging is not too bad mate,

take it easy and don't do anything silly, nothing is worth the risk in flood waters.

cheers

John, keep an eye out for my mate James around town. Green Jackeroo with surfboards on the roof, shoulder length blond hair. He left Onslow Thursday arvo, heading for Perth and has been stranded in Carnarvon ever since! Bored stupid by now I imagine.
