Hey guys just a newbie question about lures!

Just wondering about lure fishing on the beach for tailor and other fish that hang around the same places as tailor :P do lures have any effect off the beach and do i need a special rod to lure fish and what lures seem to be the best going? thanks in advance!

Chief most guys use a 12 foot beach rod for beach fishing and lure of choice would halco twisties or raiders.

I prefer smaller rods than normal ie 10ft with my beach fishing & lure casting. The more graphite the better as that allows you to punch out a lure in onshore winds etc.

Metal lures like Spanyids, Lazers & Halco Twistys (40-65gram) work a treat in reefy & open water. Poppers like Fat-R, Halco Rooster and River 2 sea poppers work well in reefy spots also!

yes lures are effective. Soft plastics are killer also. both easy to use.

most fishaholics will have a rod for each occassion but you can keep things simple.

metals are stress free and cheap. try the old trusty halco 20-30g twisty. best to learn the basics of fishing first; finding the fish and structure!

conditions will predominatly determine the outfit to use. a light rod and reel is best if you plan to spin for hours. Alveys are great for surf fishing but can be a pain throwing lures. something around 7-10 foot with a 3000-5000 reel is sufficient for the bunno area.

best times are sunrise-sunset.

can show you some stuff Saturday. Garbo should be here when you turn up and he is landbased and knows all the local areas. Good man also.

Get yourself some surf poppers

they are a good little weapon to have in your tackle bag, along with the twistys and some richter poppers. Lures can really work well if you can find an area where there is some reef to cast close to.

They are pretty popular over east for chasing salmon and tailor.
