running through the middle of the Rottnest swim pack...WTF was going on in the skippers brain???
I hope they toss the book at him.
I had a run in with one on the Swan where he was on the wrong side of the channel and forced me into the shallows!
They a law unto themselves and think the rules don't apply to them...

was out on my mates boat once
was out on my mates boat once and got caught out in some weather that came in fast. Making a pretty hairy trip back in we saw the ferry coming towards us, did our best to give them a VERY wide birth but they made no effort whatsoever to increase the distance between us as they passed and their wake made an already hairy trip potentially very dangerous. Yea it was our fault being out in shit conditions but a little bit of effort on their part would have been appreciated
Didnt see the rotto swim incident but it doesnt suprise me one bit...

latest is their GPS should he
latest is their GPS should he went through the swimmers at 24knots and not the less than 10knots required.
Also he iss offering to stand-down and resign as skipper of the Ferry, but that sounds to me like we wants to douck out and under cover before he is charged for dangerous driving of a boat!
about time the Ferr folk got a slammer on them. The River cats are the worst offenders. They wide, can do easily 24 knots and don't give way in the channels even when they on the wrong side of the channel. Had plenty off issues with them as being moored up Ascot means I run into thm alot.

the skipper not only needs to loose his job and licence but also cop a hefty fine for public endangerment which could have caused injury or death

update
A FERRY skipper has had his operator's certificate suspended for failing to slow down and getting too close to competitors in the Rottnest Channel Swim earlier this year.
Department of Transport marine safety general manager David Harrod said an investigation had found the skipper of the Sea Eagle Express had not maintained a safe speed near swimmers and other vessels while making the Rottnest crossing in February on the day of the swim.
"A comprehensive review of the evidence found the master to have breached two rules of international laws preventing collisions at sea and one section of the WA Marine Act regarding safe navigation," Mr Harrod said.
"Separately, the investigating officer found the company, Rottnest Express, to be not at fault regarding their protocols and operating instructions for the vent."
Mr Harrod said the skipper's certificates to command a commercial vessel had been suspended for three months.

If that had been a
If that had been a recreational skiper they would have been delt with in a lot harsher fashion. You`d have to be pretty daft to be on the waters and have no knowledge of the Rotto swim.
