Home builder recommendation (SOR)
Submitted by HuggyB on Sun, 2010-01-31 17:03
Took the plunge and bought another block today, so now the fun part is organising a builder (he says with irony dripping).........
Anyone care to recommend one they have dealt with in the past (or even work for a builder and want to cut me a sweet deal? LOL).

Huggy, depends what your after mate. You need to set a few parameters first.
But, without a doubt, the best man in Perth is Mark Mulvay - Mulvay Builders........ 100%

My budget
is wide open Jody - budget is less critical than features, finish and quality.
I'll check out Mr Mulvay in the meantime.

Well I reckon
the market is set to bolt again circa 2006 - I'm jumping in as early as possible! Besides, there are worse things to put your money into than housing. Put it this way, the bank loves me....
A good indicator is try buying a block of land - its getting harder. The lady signed off on 12 blocks today alone and she is only selling in 2 estates.

not to scare you mate but im a plumber and all i ever heard from cients was how useless their builders are.i have never come across 1 satesfied person happy with their build. my advice to you is to if you have the time, organize the tradies your self and go owner builder.depends if you want to keep the house and if you have the time to do that. im sure that you could get all trades nessecary on this site alone if you put up a post!. good luck mate.

I am a bricklayer subbie for Dale Alcock Homes, and despite who you use to build your house the builder is only going to be as good as the trades he uses. I tell any of my friends that are going to build, to let the company know that you will be hiring an independent building inspector. You don't necessarily have to do it, but as long as they are thinking you've got one they will always put the best of the trades on your job!! I've been building houses now for 23 years and nothing puts the fear of god up the builders anymore than inspectors... except maybe the Builders Registration Board.

Huggy, Take it for what it's
Huggy,
Take it for what it's worth but we used Ross North Homes when we built 5 years ago.
We paid a little more for the build however the quality has been excellent with little or no signs of aging (unlike many of our freinds houses of the same vintage).
They were good to deal with from deisgn right through to post occupancy
Cheers Steve

cheers all
I'm following up a few leads, but I may take the owner builder route - I know plenty of trades being in the industry so its an option I am exploring. Not sure if I want the stress and hassle though!

Owner builder
Just make sure you have plenty of time up your sleeve, and most importantly KNOW your trades!!! If you do this everything should pan out very nicely, you will also save plenty of money!! I cannot stress any more, choose your bricklayer very wisely, as if they are wrong, everybody that follows their work is wrong as well!! I promise you. There is NO going back from crap brickwork!!!
