Home Security

Well its time to get cameras out the front of the house. We had 3 of the kids cars done over on Sunday night, broken windows or locks levered out of the doors. I had noticed a group of young "kids" scoping houses in our street over the past couple of weeks and looks like Sunday was the night that they finally got to it.

Even though it sh*ts me to tears to have to put cameras up as we live in a nice street with plenty of trees, grass reserves etc. the fact that we have a creek next to us is our downfall as the little bast*rds use the creek as a thoroughfare to move through the suburb.

Therefore I am looking to put a couple of cameras out the front in vandal proof cases that record onto a hard drive. These kids are quite capable of knocking out the street lights so need cameras that will record in low light and still record at a high enough resolution so that we get a clear image in the low light for up to 15m to help police nab the little sods if they come back and try it again.

Any members on the forum that do security camera work who could advise me ? I have heard of lightfinder cameras that will take clear colour images in .05 lux but don't know much more. Any and all help or advice will be appreciated.

Oh, and by the way, confrontation is not the answer. The last time I did that I was surrounded by 15 of them and threatened with a machete. The police removed that particular threat but now we have a different mob living in the same houses.

cheers

Yeah, I understand your pain. I may have an ace up the sleeve as I know where they live. All I have to do is prove it's them and then do a dance on the front desk of the copshop until I get some action.

Thats what I had to do last time, took three dances before the cops did something but they did eventually take action.

I've just gone through the process of installing them myself. I think they act as a deterrent and at the very least you have something to give to the cops - whether they do anything about it or not is a different story.

I used Foscam cameras - theyre quite affordable and very functional.

PM me if you need any advice.

Depends on your budget

Depends on your budget really.

Get a decent IR camera can probably do 20-30m but probably wont pickup a face.

Never heard of lighfinder ( yes i am about to google). Save the money on expensive IR cameras and get 200w led sensor lights next to each camera haha

Budget is dependant on getting the right gear. Looking at 3MB HIKvision cameras with 6mm lenses plugging into HIK 3TB NVR. It's all plug and play so should be able to do myself and not blow the budget.

Lightfinder would be nice but very expensive cameras, $1k plus each !

Hikvisio  seems to be on trend at the moment. Never used it myself.

Have a look and compare Dahua. Can get it online, they do some good gear!

Cameras are a good deterrent

Cameras are a good deterrent but footage not so good as evidence. Also it's a good idea to hide or secure the DVR video recorder so they cant take the evidence with them after a break in. Get a lock on the meter box so they cant switch the power/cameras off.
Dogs are also a good deterrent, we've got two and you can't get anywhere near the place without them letting us know there is some one out there.
