Hi guys,
I recently heard that some types of hooks take forever to rust out if left in a fishes mouth??, like stainless steel??
What type of brands of hooks are best to use to avoid this?
Thanks,
Mitch

Stainless steel ones are
Stainless steel ones are pretty uncommon, you know when you buy them too, they're expensive!

Not stainless
Hi Mitch, I dont use stainless hooks any more for that very reason.
I think some large lures like skirts still have them?
I have been using a lot more circle type hooks they seem to hook the corner of the mouth and release a lot easier.

Magnet
Mitch if you have a magnet handy try to pick them up with it. If they stick to the magnet they are not stainless.

Kind of, some stainless
Kind of, some stainless grades are magnetic.
Like feral said, if they don't say they're magnetic, and they don't charge like they are, then they're steel.

I agree till
I agree till, 400 series stainless contains chromium and steel but no nickel, (hense is magnetic)
300 series contains chromium and nickel wich makes it non magnetic.
I just thought it would be a simple test as 400 series is not used in too many aplications( ie hooks)
I also agree that the code on the packet would usualy have S/S in it, or be clearly labled .
