How and where to mount EPIRB
Submitted by Scaly Man Fish on Wed, 2016-12-28 20:44
I'm interested to hear how others have and where their EPIRB is mounted
I was told by a very experienced boatie to throw the plastic mounting bracket that everyone attaches to their bulkhead and or dash in the bin
In an emergency they are not worth a pinch of salt

right beside the passenger seat. Easy to reach from either seat. The factory bracket is pretty sturdy and the risk of making something else I think is higher than the risk of factory ohe breaking

Within reach of the helm for me. With mine if the boat goes under I still have to manually release it. Is that normal? or are they supposed to release from the bracket when the boat goes under?

In the helm
Somewhere easy to get to and nothing it can get caught on e.g radio hand piece. If crap is going down, you'll find a way to get it out!! Even you rip the bracket out of the boat or break it.

I keep mine in an outside pocket of my grab bag. If all goes arse up, I'll find it floating.

I keep mine in a grab bag.
If things turn pear shaped the bag is easily grabbed or if I don't get chance to get to it and the boat sinks the bag will float. (hopefully not getting trapped in the hull)
