How do I manage my GPS co-ordinates?

I have been using the Navman tracker 5500 for a couple of years and have a whole swag of co ordinates.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage naming the spots they find?  I find that my waypoints are all just numbers (I haven't named them) but I find it too hard to name them out there being too time consuming and missing out on valuable fishing time and I am unsure which new spot is which when back on land.  Also, I am limited to naming the spots by having only half a dozen letters to name each spot.  As a result I now have a swag of meaningless coordinates that I don't know why I put in.  How do others deal with this?

Have The Same

G'day Stiff

Yup have the 5500 and 4500 units myself.

Other than software solutions, what I do is have folder in the map pocket hehind one of the helm seats. It stores all the fish info I need, logs etc. Print of a simple table - date, GPS Spot Number and a third bigger column for quick notes. A quick jot takes a few secs - crude, simple, but effective.

i have a pad and pen next to me and next to the number write what i would call it. a star means awsome area. takes two seconds to write down then when back on land you can spend time naming them

x marks

Hey deepwater, Got any more  direct info about what you were talking about with your event markers, do you use more x's the better it is. I got a 6507 as well but with the power for it being in the boat the hard part is to try and stop fishing to play around on it to learn about it better.
Usually looking for others to come aboard for fishing and diving!!
