Hi Ya, While it is no

Wed, 2007-12-05 13:01

Hi Ya,

While it is no consolation for those who lose pots, it is unfortunately a part of cray fishing so those engaged simply need to get used to it.

But if the scumbags get caught, I for one will have no sympathy for them.

Cheers.

Stealing pots

Wed, 2007-12-05 13:12

I once was asked by a bloke to help him pull his pots.
Helped him for about 3 days and on the 3rd day we were abused at one pot.
I later found out that the guy had been pullin other peoples pots but told me that they
were his. Man was i pi$$ed at him!

I'm still amazed and disgusted, that people can do that.

Rod - I could well imagine you'd be p*ssed off with that!

How about adding extra ballast weight to deter the theives from pulling that pot, make it heavy but not too heavy.  Mind you they may think it is full of crays and pull it anyway.

well fellas that what i was on about  few weeks ago. unfortunatley i had the same stuff  hapen to me every year for four years. one yerar a replaced my pots five times (very expensive) i even made my way out befor the sun was up and when i reached the mark i ahd for them some one had already taken them. one year i used to dive on mine and tie them into the reef so noone could pull the and every time just a meter under the surface the rope had been cut nicely.  i once put new pots out that had  snapper and dhu heads in them in a spot  that had no one around for miles in 40 meters of water and i wnet back out the vey next moring and soe bastard had taken them totally removed them. i had twenty kilos in mine for balast. i waws not looking forward to pulling that much weight but hey i wanted crays. there is no courtesy or honesty at all in this game. yes i am very dark on it all.

smash em!

Wed, 2007-12-05 20:00

smash em i say, up here at leeman is one of the biggest feral redneck areas for pot pullers and thats on the pros side, we had six pots in the sand round beagles for 4 days going 15 to 20 a pot then went to get em yesterday to put ropes on for deeper water 2 pots totally disappeared! vanished! pricks are stealing my hard earned cash! unfort for this bloke w gave it strait back to 4 of his pots using the back of the boat and alot of fwd and reversing! dont take crap boys if you see em pulling ya pots smash em! or put blue dye in a bag just under the bridle and when they pull it the dye stains the side of the boat and they cant get it off! W@#$K#RS!

Glass in the rope

Thu, 2007-12-06 07:30

Having a good year with the Crays this year (touch Wood). Talking to a guy at the club and he said he pulled up a diver by the leg caught in the pot rope. Just having a look was the reply !!! Some blokes are putting glass in the rope marked by a ribon before hand I would not recommend this but they say it has worked, increased the catch and stilll have thier pots.
I honestly don't know how these guys sleep with the guilt.

Hi Ya,

That's just it, there is no guilt.  Conscience is a thing of the past unfortunately.

Cheers.

I don't want to sound

Thu, 2007-12-06 12:25

I don't want to sound alarmist or sensationize things, but a solution needs to be found, with such strong (very understandable) feelings, it's only a matter of time before a very ugly result occurs.

Not sure wwhat a viable solution would be though...

sink em

Thu, 2007-12-06 16:15

if you catch em then just sink their pots guys pull up as much slack rope as you can and then chop it off! the tide will make sure that the rope dosent come up then mark the spot and go back and pull the pot on a flat day w no tide using a spear grapple, no floats means the pot is up for grabs, we got one today out in 29fthm 2day and found me m8 who owned the pot and gave him the crays w gauged out fm it back to him.
