Must add

This is from one of those people that head north and cannot enjoy themselves unless they bring home 20kg of fillets each.....20 for the father 20 for no 1 son 20 for no2 son....

I just enjoy the fishing and like to bring a little home for mum and dad ( pensioners ) and maybe a few feeds at home....after that I am capable of getting a feed locally and enjoy doing so

 Hope you  tuned the guy

Hope you  tuned the guy about being a greedy I certainly would.  I here so many stories of people throwing out fillets or using them for crab or cray bait it makes my blood boil.  By taking fish of these people you just encourage them to do it again.

suddenly the guy that gave the poster some fillets is greedy ???? (hahahah have to remember what a bastard act giving my parents some fillets next time I get back from a trip north is ~~~~~~)

BTW No one said anything about the original fisherman using the fillets for crab or cray bait. Only the poster said he may do that.

Did you read the ad on to his post.   No problem givin fillets  family and friends I do it regularly. But after 1 year???    And yes Ive talked to many fishos over the years who have openly told me they have simply thrown out fillets or used them for crab or cray bait.

lol yep I read the ad on

I've talked with ppl who have thrown fish away too ....but that dosn't make this guy one of them. (unless you know something we don't. )

personally I don't know everything about the person in question ....

what I do know
OP said he seems to fish and keep his catch in accordance to fisheries regs. and he gave some of his fillets away after a year.
If that makes him "greedy" and "one of those ppl" then pass your judgement no probs. (I reserve the right to not pass judgement until I've at least met the guy....but that's just me.)

Eaten 12 month old black arse

Eaten 12 month old black arse that had been cryovac packed. It was sensational! Was very surprised at how good it was. Certainly changed my thoughts about cryovac machines.

If you disagree with the gift

If you disagree with the gift maybe best to just not accept.

BUT...... FWIW if seal still intact and it's been frozen well absolutely no probs at all for 12 months

Guess you wont be getting any more fillets from him if he reads this thread though.

Wed, 2015-11-18 12:08

i have eaten cryovacked fish from my freezer that was over 2 years old and it tasted fresh still.
So long as the bag doesnt have freezer burn it will be fine, the freezing process protects the integrity of the product.

enjoy!

No problem at all

We lived in Paraburdoo and went over to Coral Bay every Christmas for 6 weeks. Back in the 80's. All my mum and dad did, was fillet and skin each fish, put enough fillets in a freezer bag for a feed for our family. Then submerge the bag of fillets in water and tie up (simple cryovac) & freeze. We would eat that fish for the year until our next Coral Bay trip

Amazing.

Funny the things that get blood boiling eh?!?

Ok so for me the date of the fish you eat has so many variables.

The fish quality and age when packed. The fish type. The integrity of the bag. And most important the temp it was kept at.

For the last point I keep all my fish in one freezer only. So cold that if you have an icecream in it's too hard to eat.

All my fish is put straight on ice and vac pac'ed same day and into the freezer.

Then for me (if it was to last that long) 1 yr I would be happy with.

The only way to know is to monitor it yourself.

If it was given to ya by a Passing mate probs means he wont eat it himself.

LBS=KGS and never actually weigh your fish.

Just guess away!!!!
