How old is too old for a motor ?
I am selling my dinghy, had it for a year and was given to me as a present, barely used it, the motor (9.9 i beleive) is very old and doesnt even have a brand name on the hood (on the motor itself it has the mercury sign) motor works fine. Gets a fair bit of pace with one person and plenty with 2, good for rivers and close to shore in the ocean. It comes complete with trailer but wasn't sure what price tag to put on it, do people tend to stay away from purchasing motors that are in my situation id say over 20 years old ?

Appearance is what deters
Appearance is what deters people. If i saw a rundown johnson with scratches and peeling off paint i probably wouldn't buy it. If i saw it running and it looked good under the cowling then i would probably consider it. People would pay less attention to adds concerning older motors and boats if they are new to the market because they've been told 'get something reliable' (not saying that yours isn't). More experienced campaigners would know a motor in good nick when they see one, but if you put an attractive price on there and ran it for people you will have no problems selling it.
Good luck

as long as she cranks up 1st
as long as she cranks up 1st or 2nd pull cold...aesthetics on the cowling wouldn't worry me...rust and salt damage on the motor would though ...price wise just try and get a comparison seperating the 3 components to get a roughy on price ...otherwise throw a pic up and invite some offers , might be a good little crabber

Mate with my little tub, the engine was an 82 build, the boat probably around the same! And she may look a little rough but still goes well for what i use her for (rivers mainly).
As said, as long as it is mechanically sound and you can show that then you should be right. 20 years is nothing if it still runs right!
