huet training

after my last post about pfd,s I started thinking about the first time I did the huet course . me being me thought because I had years of diving experience that the huet course would be just a junket away from work, how wrong I was I should have twigged when I noticed all the other blokes on the course had large dive bags with them and I just had a small bag with my bordies and a towel in it , they were all doing their huet for the umpteenth time and I was doing it for the first time, I learnt quickly I had made a blunder it was a bloody cold day and as we geared up for the course they all got there wettys on and swim goggles and nose pegs I spent the rest of the day freezing and choking (water up the snozzel) but I got through it while all those blokes had a good laugh at me I can look back now and laugh myself

Survival at sea

Mon, 2013-07-22 18:27

Did my survival at sea course at IFAP in Rous Head indoor pool, was a breeze compared to some mates who did theirs in Two Rocks marina in the middle of August
Would have frozen their nurries off.

I know when you read this post Chass Kirkim (ex gun wafl player)you will want to make a comment but just remember you put your hand up to go on the course with me thinking it was a junket too and then had the cheek to tell me it was the worst course you had been on (it was)

I was fishing down at Coogee

Mon, 2013-07-22 18:58

I was fishing down at Coogee with some mates back in lthe 70's when they built the first one down there. When they were commissioning it, they asked us if we wanted a ride in it. Absolutely, so we were among the first people to do HUET.

cheers

Dale

Hi Peter, yep I was a Robbs

Hi Peter, yep I was a Robbs Jetty junkie and I've only ever known it as Robbs Jetty. We used to ride our bikes down there every weekend, even after the first section was removed. We would do the balancing act on the offal pipe. Or fish off the wreck if the waves were too high to get onto the jetty.

Cheers

Dale

Piece of piss and it's  actually called BOSIET now. The only who had trouble in ours were the chinamen who kept jumping out the window before they rolled the chopper lol. Shitting themselves. Did mine at the old ERGT training center in Jandakot.

ERGT

Mon, 2013-07-22 21:37

Done it 3 times with ERGT and twice with IFAP, ERGT by far much better. Although they all let people through that can't swim. Last time a contractor needed the help of divers to swim out to the simulator.

Ridiculously easy now

Mon, 2013-07-22 21:51

Just renewed mine last week at SMTC centre in Miri, Malaysia. The water was soooo lovely and warm, wanted to stay in the pool longer hahaha

Not at all like the first time 25 years ago in Aberdeen, Scotland, in freezing water with wave machines, and bast**ds training fire hoses down on you to simulate the most hideous weather imaginable, OMG

I did one of my courses at SMTC in Miri and we had this huge round sample catcher on the course and he couldn't get through the window. It was fargen hilarious. They passed him though and I travelled out to the rig with him a couple of times and made sure I was next to the window each time. Have done Bosiet / Huet in Brazil, Borneo, Singapore and 3 times in Perth and I have to say Perth was the better training. In Brazil (Macae) they had a great wave pool for the sea survival, it was a good set up but all conducted in Portugese? I had no idea what they were flapping on about so it was lucky I had previous experience...

Also did mine first one in Aberdeen about 18 years ago. Fire hoses, waves machine , freezing water. It's almost a joy doing it at IFAP / ERGT. Refresher again next month. Can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

got my refresher in December, do all mine at Rous Head, can't beat the heated pool. Always make sure you take the nose clip if they offer!

only downside is doing the smoke escape training in Summer, small trade off mind you.
