Fished the swan and can ing
Fished the swan and can ing growing up. You did get the blowies but the bream usually beat them to the bait. Now days you can't get a bait past them to catch a bream

In the mid 90's I remember brown shoals of blowies cruising around shoalwater bay. There were thousands of them.

Turd eyes
Remember seeing much the same thing at the Old Cut in Bunbury but instead of blowies there was huge school after school of turd eyes [trumpeters] heading out of the estuary to sea. Would have been around the same years Pete saw his blowies

mmmmmmm
1974 was peak drinking and casual drug use in Australian history .............. good to see the memory survives pete hahaha.....
But your right , as reported in The Great Ross Cusacks writings , blowies dissappeared in vast numbers around that time....

Had to make sure they puffed up first. They went off with a nice pop and the tail meat would shoot out .

Yeah Russ
The road was a total mess at times and probably a bit hazardous with the slime from the blowies. I think quite a few went through some open car and bus windows too, which resulted in the no fishing from the bridge signs (which mysteriously went missing a few Times lol).

I seem to remember
That there was huge numbers of blowies with no tails,I mean from their anus the tail had rotted or dropped off,but what ever the cause there were far to many to of been done with a fishermans knife

Heaps off Lano this
Heaps off Lano this November, was schools the size of foot ball field feeding. Also an area they were about 5m down on the sounder, seemed everyware. Was a lot of decent yellowfin around them too, caught one that ate the bonnie off the lure. Lasted for about a month, there was quite a tight temp gradient in close to shore. Last year a number of anglers landed them in 80m off the bottom!
Cheers

I get bonnies pretty often around the FFB. They are defintely out there maybe just not in the numbers they have been in the past.
I dont really see the same number of blue macks in rocko compared to 10 years ago but then again its been about that long since ive fished for them properly.
As for blowies, i get them all the time

I remember fishing for
I remember fishing for Bonito of the North Mole 20 odd years ago, all the Asian fellas had rods with short pieces of PVC they stuck their hands into for a reel, very clever.

Similar about two years back,
Similar about two years back, was brown swarm after another migrating north along the coast. I saw them passing Lano where I fish but had reports from south of perth too. Fisheries doco say they leave the river to spawn, each year. Seems more like a big migration north periodically I have not witnessed it yearly. http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/documents/recreational_fishing/fact_sheets/fact_sheet_blowfish.pdf

Blowies
Blowies only bother me when I'm fishin, otherwise I welcome them with open legs arhahaha.
Nah but seriously what about tha places ya never see blowies, mostly clean water not overfished.
Maybe if someone did a YouTube catch'n'cook with blowie fishcakes they'd get thinned out a bit?
Only way I found ta get away from blowies was to use burley with a bit of motor oil in it. Don't know why but it works.

we need another salmon run like 2016, where the salmon infiltrated the river and smashed all the blowy population to smithereens.
