The art of fishing consists of casting, winding, trolling and jigging
while freezing, sweating, swatting and swearing.

Is that a silver spot on the point of its gill or just glare?
"Sea Fishes of Southern Australia" fish 412 in my copy "Silver spot" looks like a kelpfish.
Colours from green, reddish brown to dark brown
All work and no fishing makes me a dull boy!!!!!!!!

never seen anything like that!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I agree - this is a Silver Spot Chironemus maculosus. They are usually browner than this one, but we do sometimes see quite pale red/pink ones.
