I'm back from a rippa trip

Here is a little recount of what happened to me for the past few days, one of those wicked trips with awsome sights and a lotta fun with friends. This is why i couln't be there on thursday to watch doug get shaved hahaha.

Well, at about lunchtime on tuesday we left from school, headed for the blackwood river with my outdoor ed class. We spent the whole of tuesday getting down there and setting up camp, playing cricket and then a bit of fishing (with a cheap $2.50 handline from a shop that we stopped near on the way down, the bait was beef jerky).

The next day we were up at 6am and packing up our gear, getting ready for the day ahead. We put the canoes in the water at Sues bridge and after stacking it in the mud too many times we were ready to go. We spent the day paddling down the river and getting bashed around in the rapids and pissing myself laughing at people capsizing (the funniest was when two guys capsized, so another group went to help them only to be pushed out of their canoes by the guys in the water lol ), we eventually made it too camp. This time the banks were even muddier and even more funnier to watch, we eventually got the canoes on land and and went and set up camp. After we set up camp, all the boys went back down to the river to go for a swim, it was blooooody cold (cold enough to make ya have three adams apples).

The next day was the hard day, it pissed down all niht long and waking up to a wet sleeping bag and tent and gear diddn't help. We paddled even further down the blackwood, which included bigger rapids and more of them. Today was freezing and after flying through a reaaly tricky rapid we managed to get side on and flip the canoe. SHIT . The water was cold enough to make your nuts go inside your stomach. we had to get all our gear out of the water and into the bank. By the time i got the gear and the canoe to the bank i was spent. I was blue and shivering uncontrollably. I finally got back in the canoe and caught up to the group, i was still freezing. The guide said i had mild hyperthermia from being the the water too long and i needed to get warm fast. We finally made it back to camp andm i managed to get warm with some dry thermals and my sleepng bag.

This was the end of the canoeing for the trip, so we had to put the canoes back on the trailer. This was hard work because the river bank was very steep and muddy, funny to watch people stack it in the mud. We rigged up a pully system to pull the canoes up the bank and onto flat ground, were we could put them on the trailer.

The next morning (this morning) we got up and headed to an abseil spot called WI16 were we practiced on a couple of smaller ledges before we headed up the road to Brides cave, a 33m absiel to the bottom, and then a bigg ladder climb out, the cave was awsome, tiger snakes were basking in the sun, just starting to get active.

It was time to head home after the abseiling and what a perfect way to cap off an awsome trip that i will remember for ages.

Hope the story wasn't too long, and i know that i'll cop some crap from a few people but who cares.

Blake

P.S. spewing i couldn't make the fishwrecked night at on thursday, it sounded good.

Sounds like a great trip , you can keep the snakes not a big fan of the old tiger snake. Abseiling is something i have been meaning to try, sound like a bit of a rush. canoe'ing could be good ,but i think i'll wait for the summer sun .

Good report Blake

Made for a good read, sounds like it was a very eventfull outing. Yeah, cannoes, inexperience and a few rapids can make for some hilarious moment.

I remember when I worked WAPOL, our social club decided to combine a tour of the swan valley wineries and canoeing Foot in mouth, with disastrous results. They were 2 man jobs and my mate had never been in a canoe and, even before he started drinking (he brought along to bottles of white wine for starters Foot in mouth) he fell into the water even trying to get into the canoe. He had the cordination and timing of a sloth being electrocuted.

Everyone got pretty p*ssed and it got very very messy and uncoordinated Laughing
