I'm heading west
Hi guys, I finally have had enough of the east coast, I have been going up and down the coast for years in my job, from the Sunshine Coast to Wollongong as work dictates.
It is 8 C here, wind howling from the west and I have 6 weeks to go on the current shutdown.
I am thinking of packing the forerunner up when it's over and heading to Broome or anywhere down to Hedland, been 28 yrs since I have been out there.
A general enquiry....has the so called economic downturn hit there?
I am Franna crane operator and have had to chase the work in the east. I don't really want FI/FO I'd rather settle somewhere warm, with beer.
Just interested to know what people in the west think. I'll probably fly over anyway when the shut finishes.... oh and it seems the fishing here has lean times???? Last time I was there it was throw a line near the water and you caught something??? Pros wrecking it there too?
If anyone is heading to either the sunny coast in Qld or south coast NSW give me a yell, I have lots of GPS marks and tips, for fishing and pubs.
Cheers

Hey Dean
Did ya do any work for TSJV of late.
I was on the Wilpinjong (NSW), Dawson and Vermont (QLD)projects. I may know ya.
I left there due to lack of work and TSJV closing up and trust me its like jumping from the pot into the fire. Same Same for our industry over here. Although Perth is home for me Iwas the one working interstate

Nah mate, was doing general
Nah mate, was doing general hire mostly around the Sunshine coast and cowboy work aroung Wollongong. It's getting a bit lean, but maybe the dorks that seem to be undermining the industry will get blown out.
Life goes on....sigh
Never got to Milton, was too busy printing dough on the coast, and the fishing is better at the sunny coast.
It's very hard here unless you have a rep as a "gun", or like me, a specialist on a particular type of crane. Thats out the window next week, onto a maeda spider crane, should be fun. Night shift, howling winds and a green doggie...lol. Just like the old days

There is a big job cranking up at pluto in the nw also the gorgan (oil and gas) when that kicks off. i think there are some big jobs in the midwest.
contact united group, thiess kentz, monodelphous, downer etc who seem to be winning most of the contracts.
competition is stiff though

The work scene will slow down a little because of a fall off
in mining work, but as Rig mentioned, it is picking up elsewhere because of some major, major LNG projects. Pluto is underway near Karratha and the operator has recently begun awarding major construction contracts. Gorgon will be announced as a goer within the next few months and that has a budget of around $50 billion, so will definately create a lot of local work. Woodside is also planning Pluto 2, and Chevron is ramping up the Wheatstone project ($30 to $35 billion). So the next 10 years plus should be pretty flat out over here.
