Hi there! We are moving up to Groote Eylandt , and my boat is being transported up to Darwin via Openica Logistics, then perkins shipping barge to Groote Island. Openica inform me that i have to get my own insurance for the trip. We have rang a few companies, and they dont seem to beable to help us. Has anyone on here transported a boat intertate and if so what company did you insure with? Thanks

most if not all logistics
most if not all logistics companies should be able to insure their cargo (i.e. your boat). It's called transit insurance or marine cargo.
So not sure why your carrier can't arrange the cover.
There isn't any logic in the carrying company asking you to insure it yourself... because your insurer will want to know who is responsible for carrying it & know about the professionalism of the company.
If your boat ended up with damage, your insurer would want to subrogate from the carrier anyway.

Oh, I should have also
Oh, I should have also mentioned Wade, that you may find if your boat is comprehensively insured, your boat insurer will cover whilst in transit. If not, shop around.

Boat policies
Cover transit whilst being towed but generally not whilst on the back of a truck as general cargo - you need marine transit insurance and, as an individual you would be better off securing with the transport company as most insurers want a minimum premium of at least $300

I am with Club Marine, and
I am with Club Marine, and they said to me(got them to mail it to me in writing) that my tinnie was covered for when i got it transported on the back of the truck from Darwin to Perth. Dont know if this was a once off they approved or if its their general policy though.

Yep, comprehensive should cover it
When i got my latest 7m boat i went with SGIO comprehensive and had the boat sent from victoria on the flatbed of a truck. I confirmed with sgio that whilst in transit on the back of the truck it will be covered. But it pays to check anyway. SGIO & Club marine are very similar, but a few of the others differ in what they cover.
cheers
