Issues with Lowrance hds10

Hi folks,

Last couple of trips out I've been having a few issues with my sounder.

First up it wouldn't turn on when I got to the boat. I fiddled with the cables, unplugged them and plugged them in again, tapped it, slapped it and swore at it. After about 40 minutes I gave up and sure enough a couple of minutes later it turned on by itself and ran fine until I shut it off when the day was done.

This morning I went out to pull my pots and it started fine when I got onto the boat but after pulling the pots out the back of the bank it stopped and wouldnt go again. no amount of swearing and fiddling could change its mind this time.

It looks to me as if the back of the yellow plug (structure scan?) is badly perished but all other plugs look fine. Could this perished plug affect the units operation? or does anyone else have any other ideas what could be wrong? My thoughts would be to plug it into someone else's cabling and see if the unit runs fine therefore meaning I have an issue with my cables. trouble is I don't know anyone running a Lowrance.....

All constructive advice welcome :)

i had similar problems with mine, it wouldn`t turn on properly and would shut itself off now and again, it ended up being the cover for the slot where your map

card goes was pushing on the map card and making it not seat properly and the unit didn`t like it. i ran it for a while with the cover open and it was fine. i`ve managed

to slightly bend the little flap so that it doesn`t do it anymore.

Use a soft tooth brush and inox

To gently clean both the pins and the plug, do NOT drown either with the inox or wd40 hence the use of a soft toothbrush.  Removes corrosion and leaves a fine film to protect both elements

Dodgy plug

My Navman used to do the same thing . Turns out there was a little corrosion on the plug and pins . To get rid of corrosion on female part of plug a .5mm drill bit was HAND twisted to remove blue / green buildup . Problem still persisted , turns out a little twist with a screwdriver on the outside of the inner big of the metal thingo on the female plug pushed the outer bits of the plug closer together. Hey presto nice firm connection and said unit works fine . Still can’t catch fish though!

Just a thought, have had similar problem with sounder/gps not powering up and intermittently turning off in choppy water, ie when hitting wave, turned out to be bit of corrosion on inline fuse, cleaned fuse & holder sprayed a bit of anti corrosion on fuse and holder, all good

Happy & safe new year to all

I’ve taken my HDS 10 to BCF

I’ve taken my HDS 10 to BCF before and they can plug it in to their store cables. Probably worth a try.

Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.
