Not sure what technique you're using Russ but if you want to have some fun with the whiting get your hands on a few Ecogear ZX35 lures. The whiting absolutely smash them down here. I would almost go as far to say you could catch that bag in about half the time with these lures meanwhile saving money on bait in the long run.
I say "get a few" only because I have no doubt some of those trevally you also catch will take a liking to them ha ha

Got a couple of lures for them but they don't get too interested in them . Got a couple with them but T hats it.
As far as bait goes , costs me nothing. Occy I catch myself off the reef on low tide or I just use the belly flap off the small sharks I get.
LJ . Yeah I do like the whiting , only hassle is it takes a few for a feed but as you see I have no trouble

I share them around. Plenty of people up here like the old whiting but don't fish . I do take some home for family as well when I get a chance to go home . My mum thoroughly enjoys them
