I always wondered if you could pull start a 90 hp,found out yesterday that you can, thought I'd try before calling sea rescue

Keep a cord on board for that reason - has been done to my boat before with the 80hp on it.

150 hp Merc

Wed, 2009-10-07 18:42

I have pull started a 150 merc, when a diode died in the ignition ,I removed two plugs,(Out of 6) the top two, wound the rope, turned the ignition (key) to start, prim end the fuel a couple of times and Pulled,it started after 1/3 goes,I let it idle a few mins then replaced the plugs, cowl and went home,no drama,we used to say, when things look darkest, have a cup of Tea/Coffee,and think it through, sometimes you can work out the best course of action.jersey

good thinkin for pullin the plugs out, weakens the compression ay? ive got a johnson 115 that feels like a 200 with a rope, i got stuck and tied a ski tow rope around the flywheel and hooked the other end up to a mates boat and told him to give it to her, lol worked a treat. would be buggered if i was alone.

Hand

Wached an outboard mechanic hand start[both hands on the flywheel and flick]an 115 evinrude with all plugs in.Turned it untill compression right up then gave it a quick flick.
I was worried his fingers would get caught on starter cog

I've seen you pull start a 75 Uncle but I thought you had put those days behind you. Flat Battery?
