Jigging advice

Hi all,
With the demersal closure finishing, I plan to give jigging for demersals a go.
I launch from Woodmans point, just wondering how far to head out to jig. Is garden island or five fathom bank suitable, or do you need to go further for jigging?
Cheers

As a rule of thumb
2g of weight for every metre of water depth. (That's with good weather conditions)
so 40m of water, minimum 80 gram jig. 50m of water = 100 gram jig etc.

You can slow jig just about any depth, finding some decent fish to eat your jig in those areas is another story
