depends on the jig,  octo

depends on the jig,  octo jigs and plastics can be worked much slower so leave these on/near the bottom and work with a slow motion.  Knife style jigs obviously have a faster action and need a more pace based retrieve then drop back down and start over.   What style jig would depend on your target but the slower ones will be in the strike zone longer.

Don't discount a fast retrieve on the slower models though was retrieving an big octo jig flat out a few years back as we were moving spots and was absolutely nailed half way back, line striped and bricked all in about 5 seconds. suspected a big blue groper.

any softy from 5-7 inch would be fine - colour - pick one.... deferent colours would work on different days Nuke chick would be a good starter.

10-15 m if using jigs definitely butterfly/slow style jigs or octo style jigs.  Have used them to effect in that depth but probably no shallower than 10 - knife jigs at that depth no good (and besides you'd want to watch your head when it hits the top in .5 seconds) anyway)

How'd you fare Sat

I've been doing a lot off

Wed, 2015-06-03 19:40

I've been doing a lot off shallow water jigging lately from 7-15m been using   Jigs suck as evergreen caprice kids 30g Ima gun from a 20-50g   Damaki castings. In 40-60g  and doing a bit off trial and error I've been casting it ahead off the drift 20-30m  and slowly hoping the jig back to the boat.  Or sometimes just dropping the jig  and letting it sit. With the odd lift been getting quite a few dhuies pinkies and Blackass with this method. I always use my own single hook assist   About 50mm long tend to get a good hook up rate
