John Dory

We were drifting out from the Kalbarri cliffs on Wednesday, very quiet, one barely-sized RE in the boat, when this drifted past. He was upside down, swimming, trying to go down, so I put him out of his misery. Someone had thrown him back, perhaps, not realising what they had, or he had come off half-way up and floated away? Who knows, but he was very nice baked in foil with lemon juice and butter that night.

I haven't caught one for decades
As a kid, they were a targetted catch in Sydney Harbour, particularly off the jetties nearer to The Heads, like the Manly Ferry wharf. Pin a live yakka with a 6/0 suicide, supsended deep under a bobby float attached to a handline. Worked a treat. I only seem to see them caught by deep water jiggers and deep droppers over here.
