In a different era JJF could have provided Slater with a rivalry that might have stopped the King winning his 11 titles and becoming arguably the greatest sportsman ever.
Andy had his reign halting Slater for a period but had his own inner demons,
John John can win his second ( back to back ) title today in Portugal...
Fingers crossed he beats Medina and claims the title he deserves!!
Only Slater Curren and Carroll before him have ever won b2b's....

Great role model for kids, always has a smile on his dial, humble and doesn't sook like Medina when he loses. JJF will be joining elite company if he goes btb Timboon.

Slater has no boundaries just like Andy and just like JJF....
He was/is however somewhat more calculated and i guess put his title aspirations before his gonads at times and held back, unlike Andy and JJF to a lesser extent....
Something Taj lacked no matter how hard he charged around here in big pits he couldnt emulate that on tour and there for never claimed a title....

Do Hardy, Virtue, Jordanoff and co still smash North Point and The Box? I paddled out to The Box once in around 2002 and only ended up sitting there piddling my pants in fear while watching those boys tear it to shreds.

I rarely surf NP and the box is too heavy for my old body nowadays.......
Would maybe be a dif story if you didn't have to compete with the crowds but she's busy nowadays......

we took waves measured from the back so
we d say it was 4ft back or 6ft back ! Alot
of the old guys and old guys back then always
sized there waves like that ! So I'd say timmo
she ll be a little under double for face ! And
Fark oath frosty I always mudded at the
box !! Also frosty if ya ever up for a nice
causal wave pm us I'll be keen !! Cheers

Haha I was a Metro booger who surfed Pyramids and The Spot and spent two weeks in Dunsborough every year surfing predominately Smiths, Supers, Windmills, Other Side of The Moon, The Farm and Rocky Point. I thought I was pretty good until the day I paddled out to The Box on a 4m+ swell... didn't even paddle into the lineup. Pure terror and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Maybe one day I'll get a testicle transplant bud because there's some nice breaks on the 3 Mile I can now access but my irrational fear of sharks is too great these days. Drive out to Windmills and The Moon last week and it was pumping with 2 guys in the lineup at each break. 10 years ago I'd have been out there but now I prefer to have my feet dry and planted on a fibreglass deck floor.

All the best to John john. I dont really know current surfing shredders but I m a teabagger and when black and white came out i was impressed with slater, but Mike Stewart is next level to slater imo. If stewart had kellys money there would have been a better artificial wave made i reckon.
