 Squid, yep just drift around

Squid, yep just drift around on the weed bed a few 100 meters off shore.

Whiting, same deal just drift around the sandy areas a bit further out.

KG's you will find some in the bay but the best fish are out beyond the reef.

Best fishing conditions are from 03:00 - 10:00. Gets sloppy in close when the southerly hits.

KG's

I've done a lot of fishing at Jurien Bay, and have never caught a KG there.  I have seen 2 or 3 caught though, so I know there is at least a few around.  Would love to know where they can be caught regularly.  There are plenty of Whiting in the sand patches inside the bay

Cheers, Belly fish. will share any future findings, what's the average size for the sand whiting, are they big enough to fillet, and what is your favourite bait , fresh squid?

 You might have to move

You might have to move around to get the bigger ones.

I use beef heart, cut into 1cm cubes. Cheep as, buy it from the local Woolworth.

Billy69 is on the money.  I have a few sand holes marked.  Sometimes they are not there, and you need to move until you find them.  Sometimes they are horses.  One time we caught a bundle, the smallest 250g and the biggest over 300g.  If you have caught a few sandies, you'll know that average is on the decent size.  Although I use basically anything for Whiting bait off Ocean Reef, I always use prawns out off Jurien...it's sweeter I reckon.  It does come off quicker, but remember you're fishing in only around 5 metres, so retrieving often is not a big issue.  If they are there, you'll have a fish on anyway.
