Jurien Bay when the swells up
Hey guys
I'm heading to Jurien Bay tomorrow till Thursday and taking my 4.75m quinnie bayhunter with me. Unfortunately the swell isnt looking the best for the next few days and as it's my first time up there I was hoping to get some advice on the place. Is it possible to fish inside the islands with a 2m swell or will it still be too lumpy out there for us?
I've done a search and from what I understand as soon as there's a swell we should not be going south out of the marina and head north if the swell isn't too big. We haven't got any spots so we will be winging it and if we get a window will try in close behind the islands.
Also, I've been on to the Jurien Bay Sea Rescue sight and they state that they are still using 27Mhz and just wanted to confirm this was the case? Will be taking a hand held VHF regardless.
Thanks and apologies for another Jurien Bay thread.

Wish I could help Steve but
Wish I could help Steve but haven't fished Jurien for many years. But yeah common sense would say stick to the lee of the islands in a 2+m swell. I would think if the wind is down you'll be ok.

No Problems
You won't have any problems inside the islands on a 2m swell. Between the islands and the outside reefs there are a number of places that start breaking around the 2m mark. If you're unfamiliar and planning on anchoring in this area, I would want it to be 10m deep plus. You won't have any troubles getting out the South passage at that size and no issues at all with the north passage. I used to skipper a cray boat out of Jurien and had a 4.75m quintrex that I used to fish the first bank out there at this time of year no problems.

Jurien
Hey all,
I was going to post a similar thread but thought I might as well keep this one going. The guy I'm orgnaising it with (Hey Travis if you're on here) is taking up his5.8m inflatable, I vaguely remember seeing a picture of it but can't find it; looks like a weapon though.
One of my good mates has fished most of his life in Jurien, got onto lots of fish yesterday, including his PB mullaway, one of my dream catches. And being the great bloke he is he gave me some of his co-ords, and with a sounder onboard, it should be a good weekend.
I have lots of boating/ocean experience from bremerbay to exmouth. However, this will be the first time I explore Jurien Bay by boat. So basically like Steevee asked; if anyone can shed any helpful insight, tips, hints, warnings etc it would be much appricaited.
I just like to know the area as well as I can, and am sure a few members on here have some experience or advice when boating around Jurien.
I think the plan is to go out the back of the islands, and few other spots roughly 8 miles out from the marina. Any advice would be much appreiciaited!
Cheers guys, and hope you all have a great long weekend!

2m swell isnt that bad,
2m swell isnt that bad, maybe from a tinny it might be a little lumpy but that will depend on the wind.
Heading out north of the island you shouldk be fine following the leads. as anotheer mentioned, stick to 10m you will be fine.
Looking at the forecas this week, today looks good, the rest look a little windy! Fishing inside the island is pretty much perfectly safe from the swell unless your north in the channel it does come through a little.

Nice, thanks for the heads up
Nice, thanks for the heads up fellas!
If possible we are going to try get out when we get up there this arvo. From what I have read through my searches if you don't have any spots out the back of the islands is a good place to start.
looking forward to just getting out and exploring the place really, hopefully it turns into a regular little get away.
Happy to take on any more safety/navigation advice if anyone wants to share.

Chart
Don't know how to add a pic to a thread, so created a new one with chart and what i'd consider areas to avoid on a 2m swell. As swell gets larger, there's mroe areas to avoid, and when smaller, you can safely navigate other areas. fishwrecked.com/forum/jurien-bay-navigation
