Kalbarri

 Help me brains trust...

I’m on holiday in Kalbarri, been fishing a few times in the river and only go half a dozen tailor and yellowfin bream, all about 15cm long.

Any suggestions on places or bait to use?

are you fishing from a boat or land based. Are you restricted to the river?

further upriver

travel further upriver, along the road that goes alongside the river. you can go quite a way if you have a 4wd. Just keep heading along the road past the marina. There are quite a few rock ledges and loads of other structures that hold fish at different times. The marina at night time can also be productive. Else towards the river mouth - from the town side up near the rock wall can be good early am and late pm. Make the most of this week though, before the qty of boats really ramps up!

Been a long time since there, but from memory, try these spots:

1) Beach fishing at Wittecarra creek (head south from Kalbarri along the coast) - maybe 5mins south of town. Might not be able to drive too far along dirt road towards the beach unless you have a 4wd. Been over 10 years since I have been there, so might be different now.

2) Fish amongst the rocks at the entrance to the river mouth with 70-100lb handline for wobby gongs (best after dark) - not pretty, but good on the chew. Watch your fingers if you land one (can bight if holding tail).

3) Find a way to cross river (hire a boat or kayak) and fish into the ocean north of entrance (could catch anything big here).

Check YouTube as I’m sure there will be plenty of vids about fishing around the river area.

 Thanks for the advice guys.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I tried up the creek, as well as beach fishing off witecarra, but only got tiny nibbles.  It’s my opinion after talking to lots of people that it’s all fished out, sadly.  Looking forward to going back home to Margs, where there’s always a feed of herring at least.

Full moon fever ( stolen from Tom petty)

Mon, 2018-09-24 12:18

Dont forget your at the worst time of the whole month for shore fishing Imo.

I have caught shore fish on full moons before but I still think its alot alot harder than around new moons.

And as far as beach and mild rock fishing goes around Barri without 4wd , Let your legs do the walking , we have found good patchs of

fish hanging around little washs and reef knobs , channels etc , just around the corner from popular spots where there drawing a blank.

Sorry dont do any river fishing myself , so cant help .

good luck.
