Burley like crazy with the

Burley like crazy with the smelliest nastiest burley you can get, lots of it! Dont worry about sharks they dont bother yakkers using burley you dont need to worry about a shark sheild either. And make sure you dangle a tuna carcass over the side for added scent the snapper, kgs and tailor love it. Ive heard if you splash around on the surface a little the tailor go mental!

Catch a few salmon and release them minus their tails, awesome berley trail as they bleed out in circles.

Not something I would do

Sat, 2016-05-14 00:39

Not something I would do personally. Only because I fish not far from the area and I have hooked some pretty big sharks on drift baits while fishing for whiting! so there's plenty around and I would  say more so with the amount of salmon around atm. Ive Never seen a white but I know they are around in that area! But that aside, yes you would be in for a chance landing a kg or snapper.

The plastic on the kayak

Sat, 2016-05-14 09:03

The plastic on the kayak actually reacts with the shark shield signal and attracts sharks. Berley is a waste of time and money. My advice is to chum with chunks of mullet up near a seal colony as where there's seals, there's snapper

I'd go easy on the burly

Sat, 2016-05-14 08:03

I'd go easy on the burly mate If I was you at this time of year I would work ground for squid in close around south mole Coburn sound or fish broken ground for whitting skips pike herring ect plenty of good ground

Regarding sharks mate I'd take every precaution you can as I've seen some big big girls in shallow water it comes down to size of yak and your confidence

Good luck hope you get a few

Haha nah i dont like people

Sat, 2016-05-14 18:18

Haha nah i dont like people with no common sense and put them selves in danger. Penguin island would have to be in the nastiest shark territory in perth. So common sense would say if you are in a small craft as a kayak why would even think of burleying and anchoring, its asking for trouble. Ive heard many stories of guys in boats having 3m+ sharks in their burley trail, wouldnt want that on a kayak. Silly questions like would a shark try and tip a kayak? Ummm if that kayak is dropping tasty fish burley then i think so. So silly questions call for silly replies. Hope he seen my sarcasm and isnt out there dangling a tuna carcass over the side and splashing around chasing tailor. I was probs outta line a bit.

I'm a full-time yak fisho, and dont like complacency out on the water in a yak, its life or death fishing

Fair enough

Sat, 2016-05-14 21:49

Fair enough comment Rob looking at the comments in that light. I have seen some toothy specimens who have taken more than a casual interest in my boat out that way.

Yep, forget the berley young fella

Sat, 2016-05-14 22:06

There's good fish to be caught from the yak inside the sound. If you are really keen on yak fishing, get on yakfishwest and learn from the guys on there who know their stuff.

Safety is the main thing to consider, so make that your focus.

Get a decent fishfinder and learn how to use it (something I need to do).

Again, forget the berley and take Rob's real advice eh.

Recently had a 10ft bronzy eat a half decent sambo and then chase the sambo head at full speed towards my boat not far from pengos. Wouldnt want to be in a yak
