Never done it outside of ropes, but if it's single strand wire the mono will be more supple so use that to do the follow through. Tie a very loose figure 8 in the wire then trace the path back using the mono, snug and dress the knot. Don't see why it wouldn't work.

My old man is a Firey and insists on using his rope knots including  the Figure 8 to tie on his lures. So far I've watched him lose 4x $20+ lures.

Apparently one was a bull shark that bit him off at Bayswater, another one was gill raked by a Mulloway at Ascot. Two of them went flying out into the estuary due to line abrasion... on the sand flats.

Cheers for all the help so far guys, so this is what the South Africans reffer to as a double figgure 8 (in the picture above) but obviously dosent look like one. So i guessing we call it something else over here, so can anyone identify what we might call this knot? to me it looks like a double fishermans knot?

Looks like a double uni knot

Looks like a double uni knot with the less turns due to the thickness perhaps?

Sorry to say

But I don't like the look off that and suspect it will slip.
As mentioned above why not crimp it for a lot greater strength, or bend the wire in half, then with the mono use the loop in the metal to do a uni knot. I think you will find that stronger.
