Keel rollers

I have just had some work fixed on my hull and keel, when I was winching my boat back up this morning on trailer

l noticed that the keel rollers were not rolling when winching up.  Are they supposed to take most of the weight or is that the job of wobble rollers.  I have replaced all 4 spindles on the keel rollers because they were not rolling before ,I think this is why I had some damage, they are turning fine with boat off but when winching back on thy do not roll any thoughts please is it only adjustment of rollers if so which ones , wobble or keel thanks

The keel rollers should take the weight but still roll darryl.
The wobble rollers are really more for balance but should still touch firmly

I have posted up a link to a site that tells you how to go about setting up the rollers on a boat trailer.
I hope this works for you

if they have a flat spot they won't roll

Quite common to get a flat worn on them from road vibrations, if this happens, rolling won't.

And also what i have found

And also what i have found over the years on differant trailers, is that some trailers dont have heavy enough axles through the keel rollers for the weight of the boat.

Some people will buy another second hand trailer for there boat but dont think about the weight of there boat. If the axles are too small in diametre the weight of the boat wont let them spin because they are held with a slight bow in them, even a 2mm bow will make a big differance, hard to see with the eye. when the weight of the boat comes off they are straight again and makes you think theres nothing wrong with them.

*Pull the axles out and roll them on a dead flat surface, if theres daylight under them, throw them away.

*Look for flat spots inside the roller aswell, where the axle runs.

*Sometimes theres not enough keel rollers for that size boat, stresses out the ones you have got.

*If your boat jumps off centre all the time, try using keel guides next to your rollers, they work well and saves damage to your hull.

*Look to see if your winch is pulling at the same height as the ( pull point )  on your boat, maybe to high or to low. It should be the same height. This can also put extra load on the winch aswell, especially electric winch clutches.

Roadmaster sell rollers with bushes inside to help roll under high weight loads.

As to the pins through the rollers

Fri, 2016-04-22 13:18

There are ali ones out there, will bend very easily and , as Sea hawk says, rollers then won't roll. Stick with s/s pins, are expensive but will last beyond life of trailer.

Ive got ali rollers under my

Ive got ali rollers under my tinny and they have lasted a year so far. Only problem is I go down lots of tracks and the pins keep bending. Ive just bought some construction grade 8.8 gal bolts to put in to give them a go. The pins from dunbier etc are weak as piss. If I use normal rollers they will get a tiny flat spot and wont roll either.
