Ive been to Bali many times

Ive been to Bali many times and Id say you were at sanur beach if you went to turtle island..Also Sanur is great if you like to relax, it is a little more mellow on the beaches and in most cases seem to be more of a mature crowd too. If you really want to relax and spend a bit of money stay in Nusa Dua next time. For me i stay in Sanur over the wet season(better waves on the east coast) and the dry season i mainly stick to Kuta as its central-ish for canguu/padang padang. Im going in 3 weeks, love that place! Hope this helps a little, any in depth q's feel free to pm me i can try and answer to the best i can.

Also next time where ever you decide to stay check out padang padang beach and dreamland beach. You can enjoy a nice swim in the crystal blue bays, buy food and relax.

Cheers

Sha

I've stayed in alot of places

I've stayed in alot of places in Bali (maybe 14 trips now?), prefer beach places myself. Sanur is quiet compared to Kuta, very relaxed and beaches seem cleaner on that side.

Usually (well these days) I stay around Seminyak for a few days with the missus to go to the food joints we want to and satisfy what she wants to do, then usually head out to the north eastern part of the island - Candi Dasa, Ahmed, Tulamben - mainly diving/fishing areas with resorts/villas etc, easy to negotiate on $$ if u just rock up or u can still pre - book online or at travel agents. Prices for everything are more than competitive (actually cheaper than Kuta/Legian/Seminyak in alot of cases), virtually no shops, but they are there, and still a choice of places to eat really good food cheap. Around 4 odd hours drive from Kuta, depending on time of day and/or traffic. Water is clean and clear, not much surf, epic diving to be had, and your out of the concrete jungle side of Bali.

Then again there is other areas as Sha said above - Bali can cater for all tastes, don't follow the crowds!

Thanks for the replys so far something to think about,,this was a family holiday and i went along with whatever, maybe next year will be by myself or with one other and will be more adventurous,, more relaxed sounds good away from Kuta,, when your 20 (or 14) or a first trip Kutas a great experience,,at 44 years old i think i am a bit to old for the place and need a more laid back area,,getting possibly setup with drugs on Kuta beach shook me up a little as well (a vial of drugs suddenly appeared next to me as i drank a Bintang and watched the sunset) nobody knew where it come from and if i picked it up i wonder if i would be here now
