Lancelin beach snaps
Submitted by Pete F on Tue, 2023-08-08 07:30
Couple of beach snapper of the drone @ 200m, yesterday morning. One demersal that just keeps getting better year on year. The one thing fisheries did right protecting the breeding aggregations from commercial and rec anglers. Small ones are a pest at times stealing the baits, but cant complain with fish like these. I have been hearing reports of big fish schools from all over even 600m depths.

Great catch
and pic. Thanks again for the info on the tropical lobsters. The first prototype trap / pot lasted less than an hour before the local indigenous population claimed it as there's.

Great Fish Peter, looks in top condition.
Pulled a PB 92cm from 65m just before the ban myself...the drones adding to the gear and setup excitement for shore based angles with good results.

Inspiring!
Great fishing there. Wondering how many on here are using drones now and whether a section with drone tips and stories could be post up?

There are a lot of people
There are a lot of people using drones, even before the bans changed they were becomming very popular. About 4-5 years back it was rare to see one on the beach. Whereas on a weekend last year when there was a favorable weather forecast, I was driving back from up near Wedge to Lancelin along the beach passing 15 groups fishing all were using a drone to aid there fishing.
It's not a be all and end all to beach fishing. Just think if you had a dinghy, but were told 'you can only go out 300m from the beach go catch a big fish'. I have learn't a lot using the drone about where and when snapper feed, now catching heaps more in the boat and kayak as a result too. Those fish came from 2.5m depths and I have caught them at times in water about a meter deep.

We had a session last summer
We had a session last summer Pete heading out of Ledge on a strong easterly when I said fark this and turned the boat around and headed inshore to wait for it to drop off.
Came into the lee of the land in around 8m and said we might as well drop a line a line while we wait.
Within 5 mins we had two Pinks on board around the 700 mark, couldn't believe it.
Finished that day off with two really Dhu's
