Larger Landbased Fishing using lures

Another topic Id like to throw out there to all you wise folk :D

When fishing at opportune times (tide and conditions are fair), what sort of lures do you find work the best for landbased fishing for tailor, mulloway and anything else in that category of fish?

Or do you prefer the ganghooks with the mulies to lures?

Thoughts? :)

I hardly use bait anymore

I hardly use bait anymore from the beach or rock groins. I finf the best lures for tailor are the fat-r popper, 40 to 65gm raiders and snipers, and halco poppers in the 105 and 135 work best for me. As for mulloway i havent been much successfull with landing them but have hooked quite a few on tsunami plastics and bass minows, but i beleive most plastics will work on them from what ive found. The prerigged tsunami paddletails work well when worked back really slowly on the bottom and the more sand you can flick up the better and the advantage of piking up a few salmon and tailor as well.

I just got bored with bait as you always have to get it from somewhere and with lures just grab a few in a small pack and walk the beach, creak, river or whatever and keep at it, dont take any bait and eventually you will succeed and when you do you find a technique that works best for you. Look outside the square, try different retrieve speeds, lift the rod tip up and down, pauses and thelike also work. Hope this helps and this is only my opinion and im sure theres plently other guys on the site who can add more.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!
