LB rock rod holders

 Hey guys,

how do you all have your big bait/set and leave/livies/ballooning gear set up on the rocks,

I understand the uses of the PVC pipe and have used them many a time  but I've yet to find a solution to the rocks found further south with the flat often sloping granite with no real place to wedge a holder in,

what do you guys use?

I have found one setup on bustedfishing.com which is a bipod type set up, similar to a bipod on a gun, sort , but cannot see it helping in a larger swell affected areas

as wont the line will just be thrown pushed with surge into crevices and rocks,

please share your ideas

cheers

Simple way

Simple way i do it. Cable tie, then gaffa tape your PVC tube to a star picket . If you have time to get the hardware, then use some stainless steel hose clamps to attach the pvc to the star picket.

Make them as long as you can, but still get them in the car, with the pvc aprox half the length of the star picket. This will allow you to find a good spot to wedge the holder firmly in the rocks if you can.

Tripod

Mon, 2014-03-24 05:33

Hey Peg saw this tripod thing on surfcasters website:

http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/Tips.html   scroll down

and there's also instructions on how to construct it here:

http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/RodStandDetails.html

Never used one, but looks like it would be the deal on an impenetrable surface.

1 x 45 degree elbow, 2 x 90

1 x 45 degree elbow, 2 x 90 degree elbows, 1 x T-piece & 2 meters of pipe. All to suit the diameter of your PVC rod holder (50mm probably). I'll email you a pic if you want or bring that stuff to mine & I'll knock one up for you.

This is what I use, beach, rock or wherever:

Had one imported with a pair of Century rods last year. tripods are dirtcheap and will last forever, however the shipping costs a lot! I just don't understand why they arent sold over here?!!

might be worth checking fleabay or someplace I can put you in touch with the importers I use if you like they should offer a good deal given the amount of money I pass on.
Ive bever been a big fan of rod tubes and tripods are more ergonomic to carry for the rods you can mount.
Drop me a pm if you want any more info

Bit of flat ally sheet metal

Tue, 2014-03-25 21:18

Bit of flat ally sheet metal about 1m by 1m with rubber matting stuck on the bottom. In the middle or a bit to the front weld/attach a bit of metal pipe at a diameter that your PVC pipe can slide over it about 30cm at 90° to it, then slide your PVC pipe onto.

Place the assembly on the flat rocks, the rubber matting bottom will stop it sliding then you can do two things to create weight to hold it all down. Either gather rocks and pile them up on it or as I prefer, use two big 20L white buckets full of water and place them on the metal base plate.
Works fine as long as your drag is set light to let the fish run/take your set bait.

As always though with Landbased fishing and having rods set out attach a lanyard or rope to your rod and secure it to something more secure.

This works for me when live baiting for Sambos off southern stones where there is no option of putting PVC into crevasses. It is a large setup though I usually dont have to carry it far from my car where I fish.

Yeah it is quiet cumbersome

Thu, 2014-03-27 00:20

Yeah it is quiet cumbersome if you have to lug it in a fair way. I am experimenting with ideas to make the base plate smaller or more compact. My current idea is to have two sheets not as wide (80cm x 20cm)laid on top of each other that are connected by a swivel point in the middle where the metal pipe PVC attachment point is so that to deploy you swivel them out and it forms a sort of flat cross connected at at the middle, that I can then put my two filled 20L buckets on the back two arms of the cross. Haven't made it yet but going to sometime in the future to try out.

I once tried to drill into

Wed, 2014-03-26 13:52

I once tried to drill into the cliffs at Steep Point in order to put up some pegs to hang a shade off. That was limestone rock and it was bloody hard going.

Drilling into granite would be really difficult. I don't know if a cordless drill would be able to do it. If it's a regular spot though you could reuse the hole later.

It is possible with the right

Wed, 2014-03-26 15:30

It is possible with the right cordless drill and the right drill bit.
Thats how they put the rock fishing anchor points in down south and up north in the granite rock and sandstone. I helped put some of the anchor points in around the state, official and unofficial ones.
Its actually quiet easy and fast with the right equipment. We usually had the tools loaned to us or hired it. The bolts are then 'glued' into the holes.

Yep, it worked a treat up north. Good thing is, do it once and it'll be there next time.

 Have a look at these

Sun, 2014-04-13 15:52

Have a look at these www.beachmasterfishing.com.au

They may cost a little bit more but for the price of make an elborate rod holder these are too much more, they've a fantastic finish and are extremly sturdy.

I've used mine ballooning and have had no problems running heavy drag through them. All you need is a small crack to get the spigot into
