Learned a lesson today between Bcf and Oceanside....

Went into Bcf today cos I wanted some bait and asked guy where to find those bait catcher rig packs, along with what do you recommend..

His answer was "oh their over there somewhere in the isles next to so n so...so having no idea what I ws looking at I had to guess it...

Onto Oceanside two days ago, stopped in on way home to armadale,an asked about what baits I need to fish in xyz areas, he could not have been more helpful if he tried. Every time i go there I learn something. Every time I go to Bcf, I get bugger all cept an empty wallet. Be damn sure I'll never go to Bcf again after today. It's just annoying I have to travel 30 min down south st for anything :)..

Lastly an a shameless arse kissing well done Oceanside least you guys want to help. keep up the superior service.

I don't mind BCF, they are well priced and have a huge stock range and the staff are usually friendly but inexperienced.
But you head the nail on the head with the knowledge you will pick up at a proper tackle shop with experienced sales people who fish really know their stuff.
Having worked in the industry myself several times its surprising that even when you give up your secret spot, suggested bait, times to fish etcetc. Customers still go on doing the same things they always have that don't doesn't produce fish for them. A common one was when we suggest Mulies for bait for Mulloway in the surf, the customer would head off to the bait fridge and come bag with a bag of occy.... because it stayed on the hook longer.
Treat the info these guys give to you like gold, It has taken them years to accumulate it and they are giving it to you for free!

...I should have added to the above that buying your gear at the shop will get you more info than simply just going into the shop and not buying anything but asking lots of questions.

The problem with BCF and others like it, they try to specialise in too many things, and at the end of the day, they do poorly at all of them

Sun, 2015-01-11 21:35

One item on my Christmas list was "Jig bag - Oceanside Tackle" and the address... Armed with that info only and the fact I dont come home with Dhuies all too often (let alone not knowing what a jig is!) my wife managed to gift me the perfeft jig bag for my 120g-180g demersal jigs!!.... Try that at BCF....

Never bought anything (yet)

Mon, 2015-01-12 14:06

Never bought anything (yet) at BCF. Always get gear from tackle shops, and as a chain goes use Bluewater only (close to home in Falcon). But would still prefer to use a Privately run tackle store where I know the owner fishes him/herself. Good examples thus would be Ryan and staff at Oceanside, Chris at Tuckey's Tackle in Mandurah and Jenny and crew at Bluewater Exxy. You get quality AND information.

Now it appears that I wont ever go to BCF!!!

About the only time I have ever got "stuff" from anywhere else was sinkers from KMart, because a Sinker is a sinker.

i used to go to bcf for jig

Mon, 2015-01-12 18:06

i used to go to bcf for jig heads and plastics, hooks and sinkers, leaders and line, bait and burley-just because they were close, but never for information. ive lost all interest going there now- after asking an employee for some crappie jigs for perch, i got the 'one raised eyebrow look' and was asked if i had looked in the lure section, i said yes and showed him a picture, to which he shrugged his shoulders...another time i was looking for scoop nets and i asked if they had any with alloy handles (which were in their current catalogue) i got the response of 'ummmmmm, errrrrrrrrr, ill have a look out the back, 15 minutes later he came back and handed me a wooden handled one, i handed it back and said al-u-min-ium? to which he responded theyre all wrapped up at the top out the back, i just held my head in my hand and said 'ok, where abouts are the crab measuring gauges', he responded 'im pretty sure theyre in the camping section'.

Now ill travel further to whiteys tackle in australind just for the service.

Anyone got any other favourites they use around bunbury?

+1 for oceanside

I recently went in with an issue with a rod I bought there 5 months earlier. I didn't have receipt anymore. They provided me straight away with brand new rod, no questions asked.

Thats why I always use them.

Fri, 2015-01-16 11:11

Just to add further to the ...$#^@##@ BCF .... Went to Oceanside today, turns out BCF sold me the rods I DIDNOT WANT.... I asked for rods  for fishing flattys bream etc.. an the "light rod" I got was 6-8 lb... Flatty rod Oceanside recomended me was 1-lb, or 2-4lb.... Not to mention BCF told me just to tie bait/hooks/lures directly to the Braid. Turns out I need to use flurocarbon as a leader....

I swear those idiots couldnt get it right if they had a step by step manual...... Thanks again Ocean for helping  :D

With hindsight, the braid leader thing I should have known already, sicne we do that on trawlers when sometimes... but eh..
