The problem with the auto units are they are setup to shine forward so when fitted in the anchor lamp, they shine up. Anchor lights need to be seen all round. The intensity is usually not an issue, if the led are set sideways, like those available in the bayonet style, most can be seen from 2 miles away, as is required.
